Sonic Youth. The Destroyed Room, B Sides and Rarities
En 1981 la escena musical neoyorkina vio nacer a Sonic Youth, un grupo que surge como reacción al movimiento new wave y que con instrumentos con afinaciones poco, o nunca utilizadas, llamaron la atención del mundo subterráneo y han logrado crear material que quedará para la posteridad.
Esto luego de que en el 2005, la Biblioteca del Congreso de Estados Unidos eligiera el Daydream Nation, discos de 1988, para formar parte del Registro Nacional de Grabaciones, además de que este disco figura entre las mejores producciones del la historia e inclusive hay quien lo catalogó como el mejor disco de la década de los 80.
Ahora 14 producciones después Sonic Youth presenta The Destroyed Room, B Sides and Rarities un disco de rarezas recopiladas entre las grabaciones del Experimental Jet Set, Trash & No Star al Sonic Nurse, esto es de 1994 al 2003.
De esta manera logran presentar de manera conjunta los temas que acostumbran esconder en las ediciones que presentaban en sus discos de vinilo y otras tres canciones que nunca antes habían visto la luz.
Así durante 11 temas, en su mayoría instrumentales, los originarios de Nueva York presentan una las canciones que, a pesar de no haber sido escritas con la finalidad de aparecer de manera formal en un disco, demuestran la creatividad que todavía poseen para poder hacer la mayor cantidad de ruido posible, de una manera controlada y armónica.
The Destroyed Room, B Sides and Rarities inicia el recorrido de casi una hora y media, con “Fire engine dream”, tema en el que durante 11 minutos el grupo hace alarde a su gran capacidad de improvisación.
Asimismo, además de los ritmos hipnóticos que la banda intenta suavizar el viaje con el tema “Razor blade” en el que, de una manera acústica, la voz de Kim Gordon te deja llevar para caer en “Blink”, tema que se basa en el rimo realizado con una caja y aderezado con unos cuantos acordes que dan la atmósfera perfecta.
Tras una serie de acordes supersónicos, distorsiones y notas que parecen haber sido lanzadas al azar que buscan encajar en la partitura el disco llega a su fin con la maravillosa “The diamon sea”, versión de 25 minutos que originalmente se incluyó en el disco Washing machina, de 1995 y en el que se presentó de tan sólo de poco más de 19 minutos.
Así es como Sonic Youth pone punto fina a su último material discográfico en el que demuestran el porqué, ha pesar de ha más de 25 años de su creación, siguen siendo pieza fundamental de la música independiente.
